
On the morning of May 14, 2025, the First Executive Council Meeting and the 2025 General Assembly of the World Digital Education Alliance (WDEA) were successfully convened in Wuhan during the World Digital Education Conference 2025. These meetings marked the official establishment of the Alliance’s governance mechanism and signified a new stage of institutionalized and standardized operations.
The First Executive Council Meeting was chaired by Mr. Yang Jun, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), with representatives from 16 Council member institutions in attendance. The meeting introduced the inaugural Council members, confirmed Beijing Normal University (BNU) as the first Chair Unit, and established a Joint Secretariat formed by BNU and CEAIE. The Council reviewed and adopted the Draft Charter of the World Digital Education Alliance and the 2024 Work Summary and Future Work Plan.

Following this, the 2025 General Assembly Meeting of the Alliance was held, attended by representatives from 82 member institutions. The Assembly was chaired by Dr. Chen Xing, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, who presided over the review and adoption of the Alliance Charter. Mr. Yang Jun, Vice President and Secretary-General of CEAIE, presided over the review and adoption of the Alliance Work Summary and Future Plan, while Ms. Du Jing, Convenor of the Preparatory Group of the Alliance Standardization Committee and Deputy Director of the Information Technology Center at Tsinghua University, presided over the review and adoption of matters related to the Alliance’s standardization activities.
During the Member Exchange Session, Prof. Joseph Hun-wei LEE, Vice-Chancellor and President of Macau University of Science and Technology; Mr. Emmanuel Krou N’Guessan, President of GA-TIC; Prof. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO); and Dr. Zhan Tao, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) delivered remarks as representatives of the Alliance. They highly commended the WDEA’s significant role in fostering global cooperation and knowledge-sharing in digital education, expressed their willingness to actively participate in the construction of the Alliance, and provided constructive suggestions for its future development.
In the concluding address, Prof. YU Jihong, President of Beijing Normal University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, representing the Chair Unit of the Alliance, emphasized the hope that all Alliance members would move forward together, deepen cooperation, and jointly promote the global digital transformation and intelligent upgrading of education.
