The 3rd Plenary of WDEA Standardization Committee successfully held in Hangzhou

The 3rd Plenary of the WDEA Standardization Committee was successfully held on May 11, 2026 in Hangzhou, China, right before the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 World Digital Education Conference. The Plenary was chaired by the Secretary-General of the Standardization Committee, ZHENG Li, who is also a respected professor at Tsinghua University. Representatives and experts from the Standardization Committee member institutions and guests from the WDEA attended this Plenary.

The chair of the Standardization Committee and professor at East China Normal University, WU Yonghe, gave a speech and introduced the work progress and next plans.

The work progress is as follows,

--The organizational structure of the Standardization Committee was established and the managerial team were confirmed.

--The document of “WDEASC Directives-Part 1 Procedures for the standardization work” was released. This document is to explain how to propose new standard projects or participate in already-registered standards projects.

--The Committee‘s official website went live on the last day of March.

--The Committee will have 2 new standards released during the Closing Ceremony of 2026 World Digital Education Conference. (WDEAS-0002 Artificial intelligence application system in education, and WDEAS-0003 Fundamental Elements of an AI-Empowered Smart Campus)

Next steps:

--The Committee encourages more standard projects to be proposed by Committee members for the 2027 World Digital Education Conference. The Committee Secretariat will provide detailed information and consultation.

--The Committee encourages more of the following key position volunteers, Deputy Chairs, Deputy Secretary-Generals, establishment of new Working Groups or Advisory Groups.

MS CHE Yi, Vice President of Geely Talent Development Group, delivered a report on the Development of an AI-Powered Applied Higher Education Curriculum–Job Competency Alignment Information Model Standard; and came up with the proposal to set a new Study Group on Educational Services Standards.

MS LU Yixi, Convenor of the Operations Group under Committee Secretariat & Senior Manager of Digital Solutions in Education, introduced the initiative of “Use Cases Collection of the Alliance Standards”.

The Plenary concluded with the following 2 resolutions,

--Resolution 1: Geely Talent Development Group and Xinwei Universal Tech Group (Hongkong) Co., Ltd are required to call for the formation of the Study Group of Educational Services Standards. The study group is supposed to propose new standard proposals and standard drafts when mature research results are achieved.

--Resolution 2: The Committee Secretariat Operations Group is required to formulate the specific requirements for use case collection, the collection timeline, the use case review and adoption procedures, and the release plan.
